Running Wild: A Journey of Hope for Velakukhanya Primary School

In the heart of the rural Mange area near Mkuze in KwaZulu-Natal, Velakukhanya Primary School stands as a beacon of hope in the Umkhanyakude District.

Serving over 480 children, the school faces heartbreaking challenges: crumbling infrastructure, overcrowded classrooms, and minimal resources that threaten the children’s basic right to a safe and quality education.

To help change that, two lifelong friends — Matt and Charles — have taken on an extraordinary challenge. They’re running 1,222 kilometers over 35 days, from Port Alfred to Constantia in Cape Town, in a bold effort to raise awareness and generate crucial funds for the school’s rebuilding.

We’re proud to be collaborating with Wild Impact on this project. Cycle of Life Charity Funds is helping to build a fully functioning kitchen at the school — a vital step in ensuring that every child receives at least one hot meal a day. For many of these learners, this is the only meal they can rely on, and it’s essential to their health, focus, and ability to learn.

The Running Wild campaign is more than just a run — it’s a powerful journey of compassion, community, and action. With every kilometer, Matt and Charles are making a difference — and you can too.

Join the movement. Support the run. Help transform lives.
