For many years there has been a well established relationship between Diocesan College (Bishops), Cycle of Life Charity Funds and Bayala Private Safari Lodges, whereby a program for scholars was developed to learn, experience and reflect on conservation of flora and fauna as well as wildlife protection initiatives. Bishops boys taking part in the annual Cape Town Cycle Tour to raise funds and awareness for rhino conservation. These funds are used on game reserves in Zululand to support the dehorning of rhinos, medical treatment for injured rhinos as well as rhino orphan care.

During a 5 day trip to the bush, based at Bayala Private Safari Lodges, the boys are involved in spoor reading, setting up cameras for tracking animals and researching their behaviour, alien plant management, bird ringing to identify various species and rhino dehorning to protect them from poaching.

They also have an opportunity to sleep out in the bush on a deck especially built for this educational program in order to immerse themselves in nature and to talk about issues regarding the environment, conservation challenges and long term goals to preserve the land and wildlife.

In various sessions they learn about hands-on conservation, how future generations can make a difference and have a positive impact.
