Following this year’s successful fundraiser at Constantia Glen, we received a proposal requesting support for a high-impact conservation project at Munywana Conservancy. The proposal outlined the purchase of an advanced DJI Dock 3 and Matrice 4TD drone system, designed to strengthen rhino protection, improve security operations and support ecological monitoring across the conservancy. Recognising the significant and lasting value of this technology, we are proud to allocate R115,000 from the funds raised towards the system’s total cost of R220,000.
We would like to propose that this funding be allocated towards the purchase of a DJI Dock 3 paired with the Matrice 4TD drone. The full system costs R220 000, We believe this would be one of the most high‑impact investments available to us at the moment.
This drone platform will significantly enhance our security capability, particularly in relation to rhino protection, a passion shared by all parties involved in this fund raising. The Matrice 4TD’s thermal camera, night‑time visibility and rapid deployment through the autonomous dock will allow us to respond quickly to suspicious activity, monitor high‑risk zones, and give our rangers real‑time situational awareness while reducing risk to personnel. The system’s ability to launch, patrol and recharge automatically means we can maintain consistent aerial security coverage without relying on manned operations and escalating costs associated with helicopters
Beyond security, the system will also be extremely valuable for conservation monitoring and research across the Munywana. The drone provides high‑resolution data for tracking key wildlife species and allows us to assess vegetation condition, erosion areas, fire scars and general habitat health with far greater efficiency and frequency. This will support both ecological management and longer‑term research initiatives, while reducing the need for vehicle‑based monitoring.
Given its dual benefit to both anti‑poaching operations and ecological monitoring, we believe the DJI Dock 3 and Matrice 4TD represents an excellent fit for the conservation funding you have offered.
